Telangana woman jumps with son from 4th floor over harassment by husband; boy dead

Divya had married Mahendar, who claimed to be a Chartered Accountant. After the wedding, Divya found out he was jobless. He also had an affair with another woman. His family harassed Divya for money. Unable to bear all this, she jumped from the fourth floor with her one-year-old son.
A one-year-old boy died in Telangana on Monday, March 14, after his mother jumped with him from the fourth floor of a building. She allegedly took the extreme step as her husband, T Mahendar, and his family members were harassing her.
The mother, Diva Teja (32), a resident of Hyderabad's Safilguda, is undergoing treatment and her condition is critical, said police sources.
The incident happened at 7am on Monday. Before jumping, Divya Teja had cut herself and her son with a blade. She had also consumed sanitiser before jumping, reported the Times of India. She fell on a parked bike before hitting the ground and suffered multiple injuries to her legs.
Divya married Mahendar from Mettuguda in 2018. Before the wedding, Mahendar had claimed to be a Chartered Accountant. However, after the marriage, Divya found out that her husband was jobless.

Police said that Mahendar and his family began to harass her for dowry despite being paid at the time of the marriage.
A police source said that neither Mahendar nor his family respected Divya and had ill-treated her. Divya also found out about Mahendar’s affair with another woman. After a heated argument, Divya cut both herself and her son. Then, she went to her neighbour’s house and jumped from there.
