KTR accused BJP of misleading the nation over the hike in petrol prices and demanded an apology from Centre for failing to curb the price rise.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president and state minister KT Rama Rao lashed out at BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the daily hike in fuel prices. KTR also accused the BJP of misleading the country by citing Russia-Ukraine war as the reason for the price hike.
KTR said the union ministers have been consistently spreading falsehood, saying fuel prices were rising in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France and other countries.
“Petrol prices in all these countries are much less than in India. Even in crisis-hit Sri Lanka, the price is still considerable. But all these facts are deliberately not being shared with the people,” KT Rama Rao said in an open letter to Centre.

‘’When he [PM Modi] was in opposition, he shed crocodile tears over the sufferings of the poor and the plight of common people. However, he has been ruling the nation completely ignoring the welfare of the people since he came to power," he added.
He also alleged that increase in excise duty during Covid crisis is ‘’ proof of the cruelty and indifference of the Narendra Modi government’’ against the poor and middle class.
KTR said, "In 2014, a litre of petrol cost Rs 70.51 and the price of diesel was Rs 53.78 per litre. The BJP government gradually increased the prices to Rs 118.19 and Rs 104.62 respectively. At present, the price of crude oil is 106 US dollars per barrel, which is the same as the price of crude oil in 2014. Yet, the price of a litre petrol in the country was not the same as in 2014."
