The Telangana government has decided to procure paddy from the farmers in the state and will pay Rs 1,960 for every quintal of paddy through direct bank transfer. BJP MP Bandi Sanjay has called this move by the Telangana government 'a victory'.
The Telangana government, which was demanding that the Centre procure the paddy from the state’s farmers, has decided to purchase the crop itself during the ongoing Rabi season.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), who had held a protest in Delhi on Monday over paddy procurement, made the decision after holding a state cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
The government will pay Rs 1,960 for every quintal of paddy through direct bank transfer, said the CM.
KCR, who criticised the PM Modi-led union government, said the decision was taken in the interest of the farmers and added that the state will open paddy purchase centres in all the villages from Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the BJP, which was targeting the TRS-led state government over the paddy issue, called KCR's decision a victory.
Bandi Sanjay, BJP state unit chief and MP, said that BJP successfully countered the “smear campaign of the TRS leadership against the Centre on the paddy procurement issue in Delhi.”
“The party succeeded in exposing the double standards of TRS by putting up counter-flex boards in Delhi and conducting Rythu Deeksha at Indira Park in Hyderabad,” said Bandi Sanjay.
