Telangana CM hands over Rs 2 crore cheque to Nikhat Zareen, gold medalist in Women's World Boxing Championship

Telangana CM, K Chandrashekar Rao, on the occasion of Telangana Formation Day, handed over a cheque worth Rs 2 Crore to Nikhat Zareen, the gold medalist in the recently concluded Women's World Boxing Championship held in Istanbul, Turkey.
On the occasion of Telangana Formation Day, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao handed over a cheque of Rs 2 crore to Nikhat Zareen for winning the gold medal in the Women's World Boxing Championship.
The ceremony of the Telangana Formation Day was held at the public garden in Hyderabad.
Nikhat Zareen on Thursday, May 19, scripted history by becoming only the second Indian woman boxer after Mary Kom to win a gold medal in a world championship outside India.
The 25-year-old Telangana boxer won a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final against Thai boxer Jutamas Jitpong.
Zareen's victory brought tremendous joy to Indians. Speaking with India Today, Zareen said that it felt really good to win a medal for the country.
“Yes, it really feels good to win a gold medal for our country after all this hard work and the sacrifices that I made in my life. So, it finally paid off. I am really feeling happy after winning this medal," Zareen said.
She further said, “My ultimate goal is to win gold in the Paris Olympics, but my focus right now is on the Commonwealth games."
