The operators of an Aylmer, Ont., feed mill say they are "deeply saddened" for the family of an 18-year-old employee who died after falling into the shaft of the site's grain elevator on Wednesday.
Following the incident, Elgin Feeds Country Store identified the employee as Ryan Laarman through a social media post.
"Our hearts are deeply saddened for his parents, grandparents, brother and sisters, along with his many friends, co-workers and extended family members," said Elgin Feeds. "Ryan was a bright light with a beaming personality who did his job with passion and enthusiasm."
Laarman had been a part-time employee for three years, said the post. He attended Grade 12 at St.Thomas Community Christian School.
The teenager lost his footing, said Aylmer Police, and fell in the operating shaft. He suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.
The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
