Teddy Movie Review: Arya and his teddy bear shine in this medical thriller
India Today
Teddy, starring Arya, Sayyeshaa, Sathish, Maghizh Thirumeni and Karunakaran, dropped on Disney+Hotstar today, March 12. The film is an experimental fantasy thriller that could have been better, says our review.
Director Shakti Soundar Rajan is someone who always tries his hand at themes that haven’t been attempted in Tamil cinema before. His latest film Teddy features an adorable talking teddy bear as the protagonist that befriends a man, who is a loner. Though the idea is very similar to the popular Hollywood flick, Ted, released in 2012, this film is way too serious and throws light on medical crimes that are happening around the world. The film has enough meat in the writing to keep you invested in the lives of its characters. However, it fails to stay true to the genre as the film progresses. In the very first scene, Sri Vidhya (Sayyeshaa), a final-year college student, is admitted to a hospital in Chennai after suffering a minor injury. The doctors there, who have other intentions, injects a harmful drug in her to put her in a coma. That’s when Sri’s soul finds a new lease of life inside a toy teddy bear, which was kept by one of the patients in the hospital. It walks out alive with all the memories and seeks the help of a young man, who is suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder. Shiva (Arya) is someone who finds it tough to invite new relationships into his life. He loves being in solitude and believes that no relationships have a happy ending. Things change when this adorable talking teddy enters his life. He develops a beautiful friendship with it and learns the teddy’s backstory. The two, later, set out on a journey to expose medical crimes, which has put many lives in danger.More Related News
