Tecumseh receives funding from province for infrastructure projects

The Town of Tecumseh is receiving $2,056,244 from the province to help pay for infrastructure projects in the town.
"These dollars here are going to be utilized to replace the water main on Centennial in the Woodbridge area, which is a substantive project, close to $4 million that will be reinvesting in that end of town," said Mayor Gary McNamara, adding that it will also be used to put Oldcastle on full municipal services.
The money comes from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF). It's intended to support small, rural and northern communities with infrastructure projects. It goes to municipalities with populations smaller than 100,000.
Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie made the announcement Tuesday and said the funding comes as a result of Tecumseh making sound financial decisions with their infrastructure funding.
"They accepted higher taxes to reinvest in their infrastructure, but they're keeping that infrastructure maintained very well," said Dowie.
McNamara said without the provincial funding, they wouldn't be able to do as many capital projects.
"I'm glad that the provincial government is continuing to fund the small communities fund," said McNamara.
