India Today
Tata Tiago EV price starts from Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom) making it the cheapest electric car in India. We take a closer look at its styling, interiors, features, specifications, range and charging options.
Tata Motors is on a mission to make electric cars more accessible to the masses. Starting off with the Nexon EV, followed by the Tigor EV, the homegrown car maker has now launched an even more affordable EV in the form of the Tiago EV or Tiago.ev, as Tata likes to call it.
While the electric version of the hatchback has the same overall shape and styling as the petrol version, there are a handful of changes all around to set it apart from its ICE brethren. Replacing the front grille is a black plastic panel with the '.EV' badge that can also be seen on the front fenders.
The bumper sports Tata's signature tri-arrow pattern and the nose also sports blue accents, a Tata EV signature. The 14-inch steel wheels get wheel covers while the only differentiator towards the rear is the 'TIAGO.EV' badge.
The blue accents are carried over to the interior as well and in its top-end trim, the cabin of the Tiago EV gets premium leatherette upholstery with the signature tri-arrow pattern. The instrument cluster is borrowed from the Tigor EV and the gear stick has been replaced by a rotary dial. The centre console also houses buttons to switch between regen levels - (0/no regen, 1, 2 and 3/max regen).
In terms of features, the Tata Tiago EV gets a 7-inch Harman sourced touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers, automatic climate control, cruise control, driver's seat height adjust and steering mounted audio controls to name a few. There's an 8-speaker audio system on offer as well.
Space within the cabin is the same as the petrol/CNG variant, including boot space. However, owing to the placement of the battery pack, Tata has been forced to omit the spare wheel.
Tata Tiago EV is being offered to buyers in two variants - Medium Range and Long Range. As the names suggest, the Medium Range version gets a smaller 19.2kWh battery pack, while the Long Range variant gets a bigger 24kWh battery pack.
