Tata Curvv electric SUV concept unveiled

The Tata Curvv electric SUV concept previews an upcoming EV that will be positioned between the Nexon and Harrier and in two years' time it will enter production.

Tata Motors has taken the wraps off its new electric SUV concept. The concept SUV has been christened the Curvv, and carries an SUV-coupe like design with sharp lines and futuristic design elements. Tata says that the vehicle will hit the market in two years as a part of its electric vehicle lineup and will also be followed by an ICE powered car later.

Design wise, the Tata Curvv follows a muscular design with ample cladding on all fronts. The front has a full-width LED DRL on the lip, with triangular LED headlamp housings, that lend a unique but an appearance similar to that of the latest Tata SUVs. Both the front and the rear fenders are flared, that further accentuate the muscular and butch SUV stance of the car. The rear too has a full-width LED taillamp strip, unique looking LED strips surround the rear glass screen. Tata has gone further with the design, expanding on the aerodynamic efficiency of the Curvv, which in turn maximises the range of an EV. The bonnet has air channels underneath it, the c-pillar has air vents too, while the wheels have aero-blade inserts.

Inside, the cabin is not a far departure from the radical design of the exterior with a clutterless approach. A floating dashboard, with a light bar on it and glittery textured finish both above and below it. The dash houses the free-floating infotainment display and the instrument display, with a clear glass panel in the middle with toggle switches for climate control. The central console is a floating extension of the central armrest and houses the drive selector, the steering has a textured finish with touch-input for controls and an illuminated Tata logo. The rear has two individual bucket seats. The roof is a glass panel and runs all the way into the bootlid, giving the cabin a very airy feel.

Tata has not revealed the powertrain details, but says that the Generation 2 EV architecture will allow for flexible powertrain options. This could allow for the Curvv and other EVs on the platform to employ single, double or more electric motor setups along with different battery configurations. Tata claims that the car will have more range than the Generation 1 EVs like Nexon EV, which means a range in the vicinity of 400km per charge.
