Tamil Nadu: White tigress suffering from ataxia dies in Vandalur Zoo

A 13-year-old white tigress died on Wednesday night in its cell at Vandalur Zoo, near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The tigress was reportedly suffering from ataxia and showed symptoms of complete paralysis of the body and limbs.
A 13-year-old white tigress died in its night cell around 9 pm on Wednesday, March 23 in Vandaloor Zoo, near Tamil Nadu’s Chennai. The animal was reportedly being treated for ataxia.
Ataxia results in impaired balance and coordination. This could be due to damage to the brain, nerves or muscles. The white tigress was left impaired due to ataxia.
The animal was showing complete paralytic symptoms of the entire body and limbs.
The postmortem formalities will be conducted by Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) experts.
