
Tamil Nadu: Rescue ops underway to save 4 men trapped under boulders in quarry in Tirunelveli

Six men were trapped in a 300-foot deep quarry in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli after a huge boulder fell on them. Two people have been rescued, while NDRF and Fire and Rescue officials are engaged in operations to rescue the 4 men still trapped.
A total of six men were trapped under boulders in a quarry in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district. Two have been rescued while four others are still trapped and rescue operations are underway.
Fire and Rescue officers, along with members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Nanguneri and Palayamkottai have been mobilised to save the four men trapped under boulders in a stone quarry in Tirunelveli’s Ponnakudi area.
Initially, six men were trapped when a huge boulder fell on top of them in the 300-foot deep quarry. After several hours, two men were rescued while efforts are still in progress to rescue the other four.
The NDRF team is self-contained and equipped with collapsed structure search and rescue equipment, medical aid kit, appropriate communication equipment and PPE kits.
The 24x7 NDRF control room in Arakkonam is closely monitoring the situation round the clock and all efforts are being made in close collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government.
