Tamil Nadu Police released a woman who killed her husband in self defence. The police invoked Section 100 of the Indian Penal Code (right of private defence) to release the woman.
In a first, Tamil Nadu Police released a woman who killed her husband in self defence. The 41-year-old woman was released under Section 100 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which gives a person the right to defend their body when there is a threat.
The woman was living with her husband and their 20-year-old daughter when the incident took place. Her husband was reportedly addicted to alcohol and repeatedly harassed the woman demanding money to buy liquor.
On Thursday night, the husband returned home in an inebriated condition. He then allegedly tried to sexually assault his 20-year-old daughter. When the woman tried to stop him, he attacked her.
To protect herself and her daughter, the woman reportedly killed the man with a hammer. She then informed the neighbours who later called the police.
The husband had died on the spot. The woman and her daughter were taken into custody for questioning. However, they were released as the police recognised the murder was an act of self defence.
The FIR was initially filed under section 302 and was changed to IPC section 100 and the woman was let go by the police. Sources stated that the woman will not be arrested again and the details will be produced before a court.
