
Tamil Nadu police arrests nine people including mother for selling baby

Kalaiselvi, a 25-year-old woman from Virudhunagar district’s Sulakkarai area, had sold her one-year-old infant girl to a Madurai couple for Rs 2.5 lakhs. Police rescued the infant and arrested nine people, including the couple who purchased the baby.
Tamil Nadu police arrested nine people, including a mother, in Virudhunagar for selling a baby. The incident was discovered after a village officer in Virudhunagar district’s Sulakkarai filed a complaint with the Sulakkarai police stating that a woman had sold her one-year-old girl.
Based on their investigation, police found that a 25-year-old woman named Kalaiselvi, who lost her first husband and remarried again, had a one-year-old baby girl.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Kalaiselvi, along with her father, Karupusamy, had sold the one-year-old baby girl with the help of mediators to a couple in Madurai.
It was also discovered that the couple who purchased the baby had paid Rs 2,50,000. Sulakkarai police, who were asked to investigate the incident by the Virudhunagar Superintendent of Police (SP), Manoharan, confiscated the money and also rescued the child.
Police arrested Kalaiselvi, her father Karupusamy, mediators Karthik, Maheswari, Mariammal and the couple who bought the baby, Karupusamy and Priya, along with the two drivers of the cars, Shenbagarajan and Nandakumar.
Further investigation is still underway.
