
Tamil Nadu logs 2,662 fresh Covid-19 infections; Chennai tops with 1,060 new infections

A total of 2,662 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported from Tamil Nadu in the last 24 hours. Chennai recorded the most fresh infections with 1,060 new cases. A 77-year-old woman who tested positive for the virus and also had comorbidities died on Tuesday.
Covid-19 cases surged in Tamil Nadu in the last 24 hours with the state reporting 2,662 fresh infections. Among the fresh cases, the maximum number came from Chennai with 1,060 new infections. This marks the third continuous day that Tamil Nadu logged over 2,660 cases.
This is followed by Chengalpet with 373 cases, Coimbatore with 137 cases and Tiruvallur with 112.
One death was also reported in Chennai. This is the first Covid-19 related death to be reported in Tamil Nadu in the last 20 days. A 77-year-old woman, who had tested positive for Covid-19, who also had diabetes and hypertension, died in Chennai.
In the last three days, Tamil Nadu has consistently reported over 2,600 fresh cases of Covid-19. Currently, the state has 16,765 active cases. On Sunday, Tamil Nadu recorded 2,672 cases whereas on Monday the state reported 2,654 cases.
Meanwhile, India logged a total of 16,159 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, 15,394 recoveries and 28 deaths. The total active cases currently stands at 1,15,212 whereas the daily positivity rate is at 3.56%.
The top five states which have registered the maximum cases are Maharashtra with 3,098 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 2,662 cases, Kerala with 2,603 cases, West Bengal with 1,973 cases and Karnataka with 839 cases.
