Tamil Nadu Highway Road Employees stage sit-in protest in Krishnagiri
The Tamil Nadu Highway Road Employees Association staged a sit-in protest over a raft of demands in Krishnagiri on Thursday.
The members among their various grievances highlighted the practice of diverting employees for works other than road works. The association demanded an end to the practice and utilise employees only for the work they have been contracted to do.
The association also demanded that the workers be given all implements for carrying out the road works including hand tools such as spades, earth rammers, hoe and shovels. In addition, the employees should be provided with safety gear including quality footwear, gloves and rain coats with reflectors.
The association has also alleged demands for commissions/bribes of ₹500 on applications for advances on welfare corpus for workers. They sought action against secretaries making such demands and called for a time-bound processing of such applications of workers.
The association also alleged bypassed rules in the promotions to the role of Road Inspectors- Grade II of eligible workers. Those eligible for the posts of Road Inspectors-Grade II must be considered for the job.
The association also demanded two-way travel cash benefits for LTC claims for workers.
