
Tamil Nadu gets Wall Street veteran and MIT graduate as finance minister in Stalin's cabinet

Palanivel Thiagarajan, son of veteran DMK leader PTR Palanivel Rajan, is a former investment banker who quit Standard Chartered Bank in 2014 to enter politics in Tamil Nadu. He is now the finance minister in Stalin’s cabinet.
After securing a massive victory in the 2021 Assembly election, the DMK has formed the government in Tamil Nadu with MK Stalin taking the oath as the chief minister on May 7. A total of 33 ministers were also sworn in following MK Stalin, of whom 15 were first-time ministers.
