The Vellore Police have apprehended four persons, including two minors, for allegedly raping and robbing a woman at knifepoint.
A woman travelling to a hospital with her boyfriend was allegedly gang-raped on March 17, in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore.
The incident came to light when the woman sent an e-mail to Vellore SP on Tuesday, March 22, narrating her ordeal. The complainant stated that she, along with her boyfriend, had boarded an autorickshaw around 1 am on March 17 after watching a movie. She told the driver to drop them at a private hospital in Vellore.
She said four men were sitting in the vehicle. But the couple decided to get on the autorickshaw as it was late into the night and they feared that they won’t get another ride.
The couple grew suspicious as the auto driver took a different route. When they asked him, the auto driver replied that the usual road was closed for maintenance and before they could react, he began to drive at a high speed.
The autorickshaw driver then stopped the vehicle at a secluded spot where he and the four other men held the couple at knifepoint, robbed them of the cellphone, Rs 40,000 cash, and two sovereign gold coins. The five then proceeded to gang rape the woman.
The Vellore Police got a break in the case on Tuesday when two men were apprehended for starting a drunken brawl. As the cops questioned them, the drunk men had confessed to the crime, saying that they were fighting over sharing the loot.
The duo then spilled the details on the other accused, of which two were minors. The minors were then apprehended. A case under sections 147, 148, 342, 365, 378, 376 (D), 376 (E), 395, 397 and 506 (II) was registered against the culprits and the police are on the lookout for the fifth accused.
