Taliban Rejects U.S. Withdrawal Extension

About 33,000 American citizens and allies have been airlifted out of the country since late July.

A spokeman for the Taliban told Sky News today that extending the American presence in Afghanistan into September would "provoke a reaction." On Sunday, President Biden said the U.S. may look to extend its August 31 deadline for exiting the country. The Air Force is reportedly sending almost 3 dozen C-17 transport planes to Kabul today to help speed up evacuations.
