T20 World Cup: India need serious introspection, were very disappointing vs New Zealand - Virender Sehwag
India Today
T20 World Cup 2021: Former India opener Virender Sehwag and former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi were among the many who were shocked by India's listless display against New Zealand in their 2nd Super 12 match in Dubai on Sunday.
There was a mix of shock and disappointment as pre-tournament favourites India were pushed to the brink of elimination from T20 World Cup 2021 after just 2 matches into their campaign. After a 10-wicket loss to arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24, Virat Kohli's men slipped to an 8-wicket defeat to New Zealand on October 31 in Dubai. This defeat should hurt Team India. Tentative with the bat, their shot selection was questionable. New Zealand bowled superbly, but India made their task easier. With their net run rate also taking a beating, a semifinal spot looks a distant dream #INDvNZ #T20WorldCup Very disappointing from India. NZ were amazing. India’s body language wasn’t great, poor shot selection & like few times in the past, New Zealand have virtually ensured we won’t make it to the next stage. This one will hurt India & time for some serious introspection #IndvsNZ India still have an outside chance of qualifying for semis but with how they have played their two big games in the event, it will be nothing but a miracle to see them qualify. @T20WorldCup Well done NZ you were too good today. And for team India, they need to get together and perform miracles. Time is running out. #indvsnz This hasn’t been expected from team India @BCCI Team India has always been amongst one of the favourites..sad & disappointedwell played @BLACKCAPS you guys played better cricket #IndiaVsNewZealand #ICCT20WorldCup2021
After their big defeat on Sunday, India slipped to the 5th spot in Group 2 of the Super 12 behind Afghanistan and Namibia Pakistan are on top with 3 wins from as many matches while Afghanistan are the second spot with 2 wins from 3 matches while New Zealand opened their account.
