T20 World Cup in India: BCCI can't go ahead with 9-city formula, has sought time to assess Covid-19 situation

The Board of Control for Cricket in India will seek an extension of time from the International Cricket Council before taking a definite call on hosting the T20 World Cup in India this year. The decision was taken at the BCCI AGM which was held virtually on Saturday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in its Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai on Saturday confirmed that it would host the remainder of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in the UAE in September-October, citing monsoon in the country during the said period. The BCCI also said it has authorised its office bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021. India has the hosting rights for the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in October-November. However, after the suspension of IPL due to positive Covid-19 cases in bio-bubbles earlier this month, there were doubts whether India will be able to host the World Cup, given the pandemic situation in the county.More Related News
