T20 World Cup Past Winners: Sri Lanka won their maiden title in 2014, beating India in the final. After finishing runners-up in 2009 and 2012, Sri Lanka, under Lasith Malinga, went all the way and bid a perfect farewell to Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakara.
Sri Lanka had a near-perfect campaign at the T20 World Cup in 2014 which was played in Bangladesh. Lasith Malinga led the island nation to their first-ever T20 World Cup title and their second major trophy after the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1996.
Sri Lanka were also able to bid goodbyes to their legends, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene in a grand manner as the stalwarts of Sri Lankan cricket retired from the shortest format of the game at the international level after winning the T20 World Cup in 2014.
