BJP MLC Dhananjaya Sarji has alleged that unknown people sent suspicious boxes in his name to several people in Shivamogga, in the guise of extending New Year wishes.
His office has filed a complaint with the Shivamogga police in this regard.
Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, Dr. Sarji said that he received information from S.N. Nagaraj, secretary of the National Education Society, on Wednesday that he had received a “sweet box” along with a letter purportedly written by him [Dr. Sarji] extending New Year wishes. As he tasted the “sweet”, he found it sour and distasteful. He had called him to suggest that he take steps to ensure that others did not consume it, which left Dr. Sarji shocked.
“Neither my office nor I sent any box to anybody. Unknown people have sent the box and the letter in my name. I immediately brought it to the notice of the police, and they have begun investigation,” he said.
Dr. Sarji’s personal assistant, Sachin Raj, filed the complaint at the Kote police station on Wednesday. The police have registered the case under Section 123 of BNS, which deals with the act of causing harm to another person by administering poison or any other harmful substance.
Meanwhile, it has come to notice that two more people in Shivamogga received similar boxes. As per the preliminary investigation into the case, the boxes were sent from Bhadravati through a private courier service agency.
The police are trying to identify the person who sent the boxes, and the contents in them have been sent for laboratory tests.
