Former India captain Virat Kohli broke his century drought after coming out to open in the Asia Cup. Former India cricketer Rohan Gavaskar has suggested that India can reshuffle their batting order if Kohli can open.
Former Indian cricketer Rohan Gavaskar has suggested that Suryakumar Yadav should come out to bat at number 3 for India in the T20 World Cup. Gavaskar’s suggestions come in the background of Virat Kohli hitting a century in the Asia Cup, coming out to bat at the opening spot.
Kohli hit a thunderous century against Afghanistan in India’s final match in the Asia Cup, and managed to put up 122* runs in just 61 balls. Gavaskar suggested that this gives a chance for Suryakumar Yadav to bat one place up in the batting order, in case India want Virat Kohli to open the batting for India.
“It does open up those options and you’re right, SKY batting at number 3 it’s a pleasing thought. But I have to say if Virat opens, he showed what a tremendous success he is as an opener,” Gavaskar said on Sports18.
Virat Kohli opening would mean that Indian vice-captain KL Rahul will have to either move down the order or be left out of the playing XI altogether.
“It means one of my favourite players will have to make way, which is KL Rahul. Because KL Rahul, I’ve said this before, he’s an absolute class act. So look, it’s one of those tricky sort of situations but SKY at number 3, I think that’s what we want. His numbers you know and as rightly said, he’s one of the best batters in T20,” Gavaskar said.
India have announced their 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup, which sports five changes. India have overhauled their bowling attack from the last edition of the tournament in UAE and have included the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel.
