Suresh Raina led the tributes for his former India teammate Robin Uthappa, who announced retirement from all forms of Indian cricket on Wednesday. Uthappa last played for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022.
Tributes have been pouring in for Robin Uthappa after the former India batter announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket on Wednesday, September 14. Uthappa took to social media to announce his retirement, bringing an end to his nearly two-decade journey at the highest level.
Uthappa's former India and U-19 World Cup teammate, Suresh Raina was among the many who wished Uthappa the best for his second innings.
"Happy Retirement Robbie! Happy endings are always a great start to new beginnings. You've accomplished so much over your career, and the whole nation's gonna miss seeing you play. All the best for your future endeavours brother!" Raina said in a social media post.
Uthappa, who played alongside the likes of Raina, Dinesh Karthik, and RP Singh in the U19 World Cup in 2004, made his international debut in 2006.
Uthappa was part of India's triumphant team at the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. The Karnataka batter played 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is, scoring in excess of 1000 runs in the international level. Uthappa last played for India in 2015.
Uthappa was one of the finest cricketers in the Indian Premier League, winning as many as two titles, once each with Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. He also played for Mumbai Indians, the now-defunct Pune Warriors India and Rajasthan Royals in the T20 league.
It was no surprise that both CSK and KKR sent heartfelt messages to Uthappa. Notably, the 36-year-old was bought for Rs 2 crore by CSK in the IPL 2022 auction after he played a key role in the play-offs stages of their title-winning campaign in 2021 in the UAE.
