India captain Sunil Chhetri applauded the joint effort of the Premier League and the Football Sports Development Limited to provide a great platform for young talent in the country in the form of the Next Generation Cup.
India football team captain Sunil Chhetri has applauded the effort of the Premier League and the Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) for providing a platform for youngsters in the country in the form of the Next Generation Cup 2022. Chhetri said that this is an opportunity he didn't have while he was a young footballer.
The 2022 edition of the Next Generation Cup will be hosted by the Premier League and is part of its association with FSDL, as both organizations look to work closely for the holistic development of Indian football.
Speaking about the tournament, the Indian forward expressed his happiness and said that this was an opportunity that he didn't have when he was a budding talent in India.
"This is an opportunity that I didn't have as a young footballer in India, and I'm really happy that the Premier League and ISL have joined hands to make this happen,” said Chhetri.
The India captain also went on to say that the Next Generation Cup will present a chance for the young talent to rub shoulders with the youth teams of the clubs in the UK. Chhetri also said that the tournament will also be an opportunity for coaches to have a close look at some of the best talent in the country.
"The Next Generation Cup presents a chance for our players to go out and get the experience of playing against the youth teams of some of the best sides in the UK. I'm really glad to see our youngsters get this chance, and it also gives our coaches to see the boys who have been knocking on the first team doors in action," said Chhetri.
The talismanic forward also motivated the emerging talent to draw inspiration from players like Roshan Singh.
