Suniel Shetty condemns cancel culture, says 'Aamir Khan's intentions have always been good'

Suniel Shetty has now opened up on the cancel culture of Bollywood. He spoke out in support of Aamir Khan.
Aamir Khan is returning to films after four years with Laal Singh Chaddha. Directed by Advait Chandan, LSC is one of the most anticipated films of the year. It clashes with Akshay Kumar's Raksha Bandhan. Since weeks, both the films are being boycotted on social media with #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha and #BoycottRakshaBandhan trending on the internet. Suniel Shetty has now spoken about this cancel culture and said that he hopes the two films do not suffer because of it.
In a conversation with The Times Of India, Suniel Shetty said, "It's unfair. We all work hard. We all aim to do well, our intentions are good. Aamir Khan's intentions have always been good. He is somebody who could have chosen five films a year, but he chose to do one film in five years and I think we need to respect that. As far as Akshay Kumar goes, there is continuous effort of wanting to do something and deliver entertaining films."
The actor added, "We are entertainers and we go by public choice also. I hate this #BoycottBollywood campaign that is going on on Twitter. I always pray it stops because we are an industry too and there are a lot of people feeding off us. So for that sake let's not destroy an industry that has its own legacy of good people and people who probably at some stage make mistakes. But aren't we humans too? Give one that opportunity. I only say it's not fair. We can only pray that better sense prevails and this doesn't happen and these two films work big time."
The boycott trend against Laal Singh Chaddha began after a section of netizens dug out Aamir Khan's 2015 interview, where he said that his then wife Kiran Rao had suggested they move countries because of "growing intolerance." Talking about the backlash that the film received before its release, the actor said at a media event in Delhi, “I am just keeping my fingers crossed and praying to the almighty, and I am having faith in my audience. Agar maine kisi ka dil dukhaaya hai kisi cheez se toh mujhe us baat ka dukh hai, main kisi ka dil nahi dukhaana chahta hun. Jin jinko film nahi dekhni hai, main us baat ki izzat karunga, aur kya keh sakte hain (If I have hurt someone's heart with something, I feel sad for that, I don't want to hurt anyone. Those who don't wish to see the film, I will respect their decision. What else can I say)."
Talking about Laal Singh Chaddha, it is the official Hindi remake of the Hollywood film, Forrest Gump, featuring Tom Hanks. The Advait Chandan directorial also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh. It marks the Bollywood debut of South actor Naga Chaitanya. Laal Singh Chaddha was earlier scheduled for Baisakhi release, but the makers postponed the film's release date to August 11, 2022.
