Suman Paul, the sole Trinamool Congress (TMC) corporator in Tripura, joined the BJP on Thursday.
Suman Paul, who was the sole Trinamool Congress (TMC) corporator in Tripura, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb took to Twitter to inform that Paul had joined the saffron camp. He said, "The only Municipal Council member of TMC from Ambassa Municipal Council Shri Suman Paul Ji joins BJP Tripura today. He joins BJP after witnessing the revolutionary changes at the grassroots through the developmental policies of the Tripura government.

Suman Paul's move to join the BJP comes when Tripura is slated for its assembly polls in 2023.
The TMC contested the Tripura civic polls right after sweeping the Bengal polls of 2021. The party saw a rise in its vote share from 0.30 per cent in the 2018 Assembly elections to 16.39 per cent in the civic polls.
In the Agartala Municipal Corporation, the TMC emerged as the second biggest party after the BJP.
TMC leaders including Sabyasachi Dutta, Rajib Banerjee, Sayoni Ghosh, Kunal Ghosh and Babul Supriyo made multiple trips in the run up to the civic polls of Tripura.
