A sudden death in southeastern New Brunswick has prompted police to issue a warning about an "extremely dangerous substance."
On Thursday, Richibucto RCMP were made aware of a sudden death in Jardineville, N.B. According to a news release, police determined the individual's death is likely related to the use of a drug that is believed to have been purchased in Elsipogtog First Nation, N.B.
RCMP said the drug is believed to contain carfentanil, which is a synthetic opioid that is significantly stronger than fentanyl. It is possibly in a blue or green powder form.
"We urge everyone to exercise extreme caution and avoid purchasing or consuming any drugs that may be circulating in the region," Insp. Maxime Babineau of the Southeast District RCMP said in the release. "The health and safety of those we serve remains our top priority. Our thoughts are with the deceased's family, friends and community."
