Sudbury's iconic water tower is getting a makeover

One of the last remaining iconic city landmarks from Sudbury's old days.is getting a makeover, as the old water tower that overlooks the downtown is being painted.
Owner Dario Zulich says the repair and restoration is part of the commitment he made when he bought it in 2016.
Project leader, Tim Laderoute, says painters are up there now, covering the rust on the top of the tower with a special product, and he says the work will be done in 7 to 10 days, with more touch-ups planned for next year.
"This is part one of a phased approach to restoring it. there is more to come next year," said Laderoute.
Zulich bought the tower in 2016, and has said in the past he wanted to put a huge red goal light on the tower, that would signal whenever his junior hockey team scored a goal during its games. Zulich says that may still be in the plans, but he also wants to enhance the area with some new lighting, and possibly add a community park and observation area.
"The painting we wanted to start now, to take advantage of the remaining good weather, and in conjunction with the 38-unit housing development on an adjacent piece of land," said Laderoute.
Asked about restoring the lettering that spells out 'Sudbury,' Laderoute says he's waiting to hear from the contractor about whether that can be achieved in this phase of work.
