Sudbury fire crews were called to the scene of a structural fire at a condemned building in the city’s downtown early Sunday afternoon.
Greater Sudbury deputy fire chief Jesse Oshell told CTV News in a phone interview individuals had broken into the secured building on Elgin Street near the Blue Door Soup Kitchen prior to the fire.
“The individuals have since been evacuated,” he said.
“The platoon is checking the building… the fire is now under control.”
Fire officials said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Officers from the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) are also in the area of Elgin Street and Van Horne Street to manage traffic.
"Motorist and pedestrians are asked to remain away from the area," said GSPS in a tweet.
