The Russian forces intensified its attack on Saltivka, a large residential area in Ukraine's Kharkiv, with millions of residents leaving the city amidst Moscow’s growing offensive in eastern Ukraine.
As the Russian forces amp up their attack on the eastern part of Ukraine, the second largest city, Kharkiv, is witnessing daily bombings.
The city is almost completely empty. According to the sources, more than 120 people have lost their lives and more than 300 have been injured till now.
Saltivka, a large residential area located in the north-eastern region of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, has been a target of Russia since the beginning of the war. Recently, the area witnessed an increase in shelling and bombing by Russian forces, with millions of residents leaving the city.
About 80 per cent of the city is empty. A trail of destruction can be seen everywhere, with buildings including church, hospitals, and houses in ruins.
Speaking to India Today, Aalaa, a resident of Saltivka said, “I am very sad. what is happening? I don’t want to die. I do not want any fights.. Ukraine and Russia are so close, then why are Russian forces killing us? The church was so beautiful, we used to come here every day. Look what has happened to it now.”
Only desolation and silence can be seen in the city with burnt houses and buildings everywhere. There is continuous bombardment. No people can be seen in the areas very close to the frontline.
Nearly two months since Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine, Moscow has stepped up its attack in Ukraine’s eastern industrial heartland of coal mines and factories. Earlier, Moscow had declared that its main goal was to capture the Donbas region and retreat from areas around Kyiv.
