A pack of stray dogs were reportedly feeding on the body of a newborn outside a government hospital in Odisha's Balasore.
The incident was reported near a Siddhi Vinayak temple. The dogs were feasting on the body parts of a newborn baby at the back gate of the district hospital.
The local residents informed the police stationed inside the hospital premises. The police are yet to ascertain whether the body was dumped by someone or whether it was washed away from other regions due to the unseasonal rains that occurred in the district today.
Social activist Nazia Afrin told India Today that reports of stray dogs mauling newborns are regular in government hospitals and in most cases, newborn girls are abandoned. Why is the administration unable to end the issue, she asked.
Meanwhile, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Balasore DHH, Dr Dulalsen Jagadev said, "I have ordered an inquiry. Right now I won't be able to say anything about the incident since I learned about it from the hospital manager. I can say anything about the incident only after an investigation is carried out.”
