Storm Eunice, the second major storm in three days and its powerful winds, smashed through northern Europe on Friday, killing at least nine people, with fallen trees and flying debris.
An Atlantic storm battered Northwestern Europe with record winds on Friday, killing at least nine people, while knocking out power for tens of thousands, trees uprooted by high winds, cancelled train services and shredding the roof of London’s O2 Arena.
Storm Eunice, the second major storm, hit western England and made landfall in Cornwall on Friday where waves lashed the coast, sending plumes of spray dozens of metres into the air.
The UK weather service said a gust provisionally measured at 122 mph (196 kph), thought to be the strongest ever in England, was recorded on the Isle of Wight as Storm Eunice swept across the country’s south.

The storm, which is also battering other northern European countries, including Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands.
