Noting that the government, in the Union Budget 2022, has increased allocation to the healthcare sector, Dr. Trehan said it still doesn't move the needle enough.
Eminent cardiologist Dr Naresh Trehan, Medanta Chairman, on Monday said there is still a lot to be done in the healthcare sector in the country.
At India Today's Budget Roundtable 2022, Dr. Trehan said, "In healthcare per se our expectations, which are a throwback to the two years of the pandemic, have always been that we will try to achieve 2.5 per cent of our annual budget allocation for the sector."

"Although there has been some allocation increase in this year's budget - Rs 16,000 crore to Rs 88,000 crore, it still doesn't move the needle enough. In the background of what we have been through, we won't be able to say that the world is going to be safe from further viral assaults," he said.
Dr. Trehan stressed creating a robust healthcare system in small towns and remote areas.
