Sterlite Copper plant case: Probe report to be submitted to Tamil Nadu Assembly soon

The probe report of the 2018 Sterlite Copper plant firing case, in which 13 people were allegedly killed, will be submitted to the Tamil Nadu Assembly soon.
The report on the Thoothukudi Police firing, in which 13 people were allegedly killed on May 28, 2018, was handed over to the Tamil Nadu government by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan who conducted the probe.
State Law Minister S Raghunatha had said that based on the report by the inquiry commission, an order was passed to withdraw the cases filed against 38 personnel involved in the anti-Sterlite protests and to provide Rs 1 lakh relief to 93 people.

He also stated that the final report was submitted to the Tamil Nadu government on May 18 in four parts. The report is now being analysed. Ragunatha also said that after taking the recommended actions, the commission’s report along with the actions taken against those involved will be submitted to the state assembly.
Based on sources, certain excerpts from the report have stated that shots had been fired at people who were trying to run away, contrary to what the police had claimed earlier.
Aruna Jagadeesan’s report also stated that long-range shooters had been employed by the police to fire at the crowd, highlighting the involvement of the district collector and several police officers in the incident.
