Steep property tax revision will lead to massive protests, warn DMDK

Tamil Nadu Government should immediately withdraw the proposed 150% property tax revision to avoid a massive people's protest, said Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader, Premalatha Vijayakanth.
Addressing a protest meeting here on Thursday, Ms. Premalatha said that the DMK has failed fulfill its poll promises on pongal gift, monthly assistance to women through PDS, waivering of jewel loans and making monthly bill of electricity consumption.
It has come to power with false promises. However, at a time when the people were burdened with price rise of essential commodities due to increasing price of fuel were given a "bonus" of steep increase in property tax.
"It will affect not only the tenants of houses and commercial establishments, but also landlords. People were not even able to afford to buy even a cup of tea these days," she charged.
If the claims of Local Administration Minister, K.N. Nehru, that the Centre had forced the State to increase the property tax, it is the duty of Bharatiya Janata Party to clarify the facts.
She also asked the Centre and State to reduce the price of petrol, diesel and cooking gas cylinders to give some relief to people.
