Statue of Unity official suspended for 'inappropriate' remarks against tribal community

A senior official of the governing body of the Statue of Unity was suspended by the Gujarat govt on Sunday.
The Gujarat government on Sunday suspended a senior official of the governing body of the Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world, in Kevadia in the Narmada district for allegedly making inappropriate and objectionable remarks against a tribal community predominantly settled in this region.
Nilesh Dubey held the additional charge as the Deputy Collector in Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority. He was suspended by the state government and a departmental inquiry was initiated against him, the Authority's Chief Administrator Ravi Shankar said.The move by the authorities comes after an audio clip of Dubey allegedly using inappropriate and objectionable words against the tribal community went viral.
The objectionable remarks made by Dubey, who is posted as Assistant Commissioner of Sardar Sarovar Punarvasvat Agency, led to widespread protests by members of the tribal community. The protestors also demanded registration of an FIR against him.
