Srinagar-Leh National Highway is likely to reopen the strategic road early this year.
The strategic 434 kilometre Srinagar-Leh Highway, the only road connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of Jammu and Kashmir, is likely to open early this year, mostly because of less snowfall as compared to previous years.
The officials said that the men and machinery are working in full swing even as currently the snow clearance work is being carried out at the upper alignment of the Zojila Pass, which always remains a tough spot due to it being prone to avalanches.
The administration of Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are ensuring that connectivity is restored that will subsequently benefit the people besides the movement of security forces.
The highway was closed on January 5 this year following heavy snowfall after remaining open for a record time despite inclement weather.
