The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) on Monday picked 49 cities worldwide for its creative cities network. Among the cities was Srinagar, which became the third Indian city to part of this list after Mumbai and Hyderabad. Delighted that beautiful Srinagar joins the @UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) with a special mention for its craft and folk art. It is a fitting recognition for the vibrant cultural ethos of Srinagar. Congratulations to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar joins a prestigious list of 249 other great cities in the world and becomes a member of the prestigious @UNESCO “Creative Cities Network”.We’d been trying for this since 2018 — a strong collective effort!Today belongs to all Srinagarites - each one of you!!! pic.twitter.com/eeGaELLyb3
The 49 cities were added to the Unesco creative cities network (UCCN) following their designation by Unesco Director-General Audrey Azoulay. The cities were picked in recognition of "their commitment to placing culture and creativity at the heart of their development and to sharing knowledge and good practices", according to a press release posted on the Unesco.
