Sri Lanka on Monday announced Mahela Jayawardene will be taking up the role of 'consultant coach' for the senior national team from January 2022 for a one year period.
Sri Lanka Cricket on Monday announced the appointment of former captain and batting great Mahela Jayawardene as "consultant coach" for a period of one year, effective from January 2022. Jayawardene served as a consultant for the senior national team during Round 1 of their campaign at the T20 World Cup in the UAE earlier this year.
Mahela Jayawardene, who is considered one of the best tacticians going around, especially in the shortest format of the game after his exploits with the Mumbai Indians. Jayawardene, who took over from Ricky Ponting in 2016, has overseen three title-winning campaigns (2017, 2019 and 2020) with the most successful IPL franchise.
