A 61-year-old man has died following a head-on crash with a city bus in the Onaping area of Greater Sudbury.
Sudbury police were called to the scene of a serious three-vehicle crash on MR8 around 7:25 p.m. Thursday, a news release said.
"Information provided was that a SUV was travelling westbound on Highway 144 when the driver lost control failing to negotiate the turn ramp onto MR8 and collided head-on with a GOVA Plus bus travelling southbound on MR8," Sudbury police said.
"A third vehicle travelling behind the bus also struck the bus after the head-on collision occurred."
Firefighters extricated the driver of the SUV from the vehicle and paramedics performed life-saving measures on him before he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The bus driver was the only person on board the city bus at the time of the crash and they were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Fortunately, the driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
