The Taredo RTO in Mumbai has set up a special team, a hotline and an email address for citizens to register complaints against cab drivers who refuse passengers wanting to play for a short distance. Check out all the details here.
If Mumbai taxi drivers refuse short-distance trips, citizens now can directly contact the special team formed by the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) in Tardeo to raise complaints. The RTO also launched a hotline number, a WhatsApp chat service and an email for commuters to reach out to and raise complaints regarding such incidents.
According to a senior official in the department, the three-member special team will be doing rounds across key locations in Mumbai to nab drivers who refuse short journeys.
In less than two weeks, the RTO team served notices to 19 such cab drivers for rejecting passengers who wanted to undertake short-distance trips. More such flying squads are expected to come up, which would lead to an increase in the number of inspections.
Citizens wishing to register complaints can contact the RTO team at 90762010101 from 7 am to 7 pm. Past this time, passengers can drop a text or WhatsApp on the same number to file their complaints.
Alternatively, people can drop an email to mh01taxicomplaint@gmail.com to register issues. Every complaint will reportedly be taken up by an inspector-rank official.
A separate control room has also been set up to register complaints regarding this. A senior official connected to this initiative said that action would surely be taken against drivers who disturb passengers and refuse to ply for short distances.
The RTO team will also interact with taxi drivers randomly and explain to them the rules of the Motor Vehicle Act. They will also warn cabbies to not behave rudely towards customers, refuse passengers or overcharge them.
