Special awareness camp for transgenders held in Coimbatore

A special awareness camp was organised in Coimbatore for transgenders. At least 12 police officers and NGO representatives took part in the camp.
Personnel from the Anti-Human Trafficking (AHTU) of Coimbatore organised a special awareness camp for transgenders on Saturday. The camp was organised at the Police Community Hall at Uppilipalayam. The AHTU, in collaboration with the district child protection unit, labour department and Childline organised a special awareness camp for transgenders on the various opportunities available to them.
According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), at least 51 transgenders from Kavundampalayam, Sungam and Ramanathapuram came to attend the camp. The report stated that the police advised them not to beg on the streets.
