Southwest monsoon arrives in Odisha; likely to hit Jharkhand in 48 hours

The southwest monsoon has set in over Odisha, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD), adding that the conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon into Jharkhand and other regions during the next two or three days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the arrival of southwest monsoon in Odisha on Thursday. According to the weather department, conditions are favourable for the advancement of the monsoon into some more parts, including Jharkhand, during the next 2-3 days.
"Conditions are favorable for further advance of the monsoon into some more parts of the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat State, Madhya Pradesh, remaining parts of Vidarbha, Andhra Pradesh and Westcentral and northwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, remaining parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some more parts of Bihar, some parts of east Uttar Pradesh during next 2-3 days," said IMD. Odisha's Malkangiri and Koraput districts have been experiencing pre-monsoon activities for the past two days.

According to the weather department, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are very likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next 5 days.
