Lance Klusener was previously the head coach of Afghanistan men's team between September 2019 to December 2021. He also worked as the batting coach of Zimbabwe and South Africa, and the bowling coach of Mumbai Indians.
Lucknow Super Giants owner RPSG Group on Monday roped in former South Africa cricketer Lance Klusener as the head coach of its Durban franchise for the inaugural Cricket South Africa's (CSA) T20 League.
"I am honoured to join the RPSG family. This is a new challenge for me. It makes me very proud. I am looking forward to meet the team," Klusener said in a statement.
Klusener was previously the head coach of Afghanistan men's team from September 2019 to December 2021. During Klusener's tenure, Afghanistan performed reasonably well, especially at the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE and Oman. The team also won one out of three Test matches, three out of six ODIs and nine out of 14 T20Is.
Afghanistan Cricket Board and Klusener had mutually agreed not to extend the South African's contract as the head coach.
He also worked as batting coach of Zimbabwe and South Africa, and head coach of the South Africa domestic side Dolphins, as well as bowling coach of Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians.
During his playing career, the all-rounder Klusener represented South Africa in 417 international games between 1996 and 2004. He scored 5482 runs and took 272 wickets across ODI and Test cricket.
The RPSG-owned Lucknow Super Giants competed in their maiden season in the recent Indian Premier League 2022. The Lucknow-based side was eliminated in the Eliminator after losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore in May this year.
