Congress President Sonia Gandhi is set to meet top party leaders on Thursday to discuss the strategy for the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi is set to meet top party leaders on Thursday to discuss the strategy for the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.According to sources, the principal opposition party is keen that discussion on key issues should take place in the Monsoon Session. The meet will take place at 10 Janpath and will be attended by top Congress leaders from both houses.
Congress has already zeroed in on issues that the party is planning to raise in both Houses of Parliament. The Agnipath scheme, Indo-China border issues, inflation, unemployment, flood situations in various states are the various issues on which the party is already gearing up to corner the Narendra Modi government in Parliament.Meanwhile, Congress has already asked all its MPs to be present on July 18 when the Presidential election takes place.
Congress has called a meeting of all its general secretaries, state in-charges, PCC presidents along with frontal organisation heads which will take place at AICC headquarters, in Delhi on Thursday afternoon.Though the meeting has been called to discuss 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' and upcoming organisational programs, sources claim that discussion will also take place on what will be the party’s strategy on July 21 when Congress President Sonia Gandhi will appear before the Enforcement Directorate.Congress had done a show of strength when Rahul Gandhi appeared before the ED. Congress leaders and workers had protested in Delhi continuously from June 13 till June 21 when Rahul Gandhi was questioned by the ED.According to top party sources, Congress President Sonia Gandhi will appear before the agency. Though the final decision on the party’s strategy will be taken during meetings, a large section of top party leaders feel that the party should raise the matter inside the Parliament too.A Congress Working Committee member, who is also an MP, said, “In the Monsoon Session of Parliament we are keen to raise the issue of misuse of agencies to target opposition leaders. Other opposition parties are also keen to raise this issue.”Meanwhile, Congress’ Gujarat unit will also discuss the party’s poll strategy for assembly polls with the top leadership in a separate meeting at the party’s war room in Delhi on Thursday evening.
