The son of a Newfoundland and Labrador broadcasting CEO has been shot dead in an altercation with police in Newport Beach, California.
Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, son of NTV CEO Scott Stirling, was riding a motorcycle when he was pulled over in a traffic stop on Thursday.
Police say Stirling then became "uncooperative".
According to the report, Stirling removed the officer's taser from his belt and attempted to use it against the officer multiple times. After that, the shooting occurred at around 9:15 p.m..
More officers arrived on scene and provided medical aid to Stirling. He was transported to hospital, and later pronounced dead, having been shot.
The California Department of Justice is now conducting an independent investigation.
Stirling's sister, reality TV star Lydia McLaughlin, issued a statement to TMZ stating that she and her family are devastated by the loss of her brother.
"We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn," said McLaughlin.
