Some Thunder Bay transit routes will be temporarily changing this summer due to the ongoing reconstruction of the city's north core.
In a media release issued Friday, the city said routes 1, 2, 3M, 11 and 13 will detour starting Monday, May 6.
The detours are the result of the closure of the Red River Road and Cumberland Street intersection, which is part of the north core reconstruction project.
The city said the detours will remain in place until the intersection reopens, which is expected later this summer. An exact date has not been provided, but the city said it will provide an update when the intersection is ready to reopen.
More information about the detours can be found on the transit website.
The reconstruction project involves rebuilding streets and sidewalks in the north core to improve walkability and allow for more public events and patio and vendor space.
Aging underground infrastructure, including sewers and watermains, will also be replaced, the city said.
Area businesses will remain open to pedestrians during the work period, the city said.
