Sohum Shah plays a pivotal role in the political drama, Maharani. The web series follows the journey and struggles of Rani Bharti’s (Huma Qureshi) life and how it suddenly changes overnight when her husband Bheema Bharti (Shah) announces her name as the new Chief Minister of Bihar. Maharani began streaming on SonyLiv from Friday (May 28). Sohum Shah's Bheema is an intriguing character. He has experienced untouchability and oppression since childhood. He joins politics in the hope of making society treat everyone equally. He quickly rises through the ranks of his political party and eventually becomes the Chief Minister of Bihar. Speaking about preparing for the role, Sohum Shah said, “I was very excited when the script was shown to me. I have never played a politician before, so that was again something that got my attention. Working with Subhash Kapoor (Creator of Maharani) was an added bonus because I have wanted to work with him for a while now. The prep for role was a tricky part, while gaining weight and growing a moustache was easy, the Bihari dialect was not so easy to learn. Luckily the director and writer were there to help me."
