People also poked fun at the House clerk's description of the former Florida lawmaker as "honorable."
Former Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz was the subject of much mockery Friday after the acting House clerk announced that “the honorable Matt Gaetz of the state of Florida” had sent a letter saying he would not serve in the 119th Congress.
Gaetz resigned from Congress in November shortly after President-elect Donald Trump nominated him as attorney general, but he later withdrew from consideration.
Not long afterward, the House Ethics Committee released a report that found “substantial evidence” that Gaetz had violated House rules “prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress.”
Considering that sterling resume, it isn’t a surprise that the clerk’s announcement drew cheers from some members of Congress ― and on social media.
However, many folks questioned the House clerk’s description of Gaetz as “honorable.”
